"The establishment of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1995 caused the fundamental paradigm shift of methodologies to understand the world trading system. The transformation of a rule-oriented trading system under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) into a rule-based system by the WTO has significantly enhanced the importance of legal expertise to understand and apply the international trade laws and rules. Nevertheless, the economic nature of international trade relationships still requires economic analyses for many aspects of the WTO system. This reality of the WTO system has increased the importance of interdisciplinary approach to address legal frameworks of economic relationships.
